About Us

Why the Global Digital Economy Forum?

As digital technologies reshape economies and societies worldwide, the need for coordinated, inclusive governance has never been greater.

Our Mission

The Global Digital Economy Forum (GDEF) was established in June 2021 to bridge the widening gap between the pace of digital innovation and the governance frameworks that underpin it. As technologies such as artificial intelligence, distributed ledger systems, and digital currencies reshape industries and public institutions, the need for coordinated, evidence-based policy responses has become urgent.

GDEF convenes policymakers, scholars, technologists, and senior practitioners from over 20 countries to develop cohesive strategies for digital governance, responsible innovation, and inclusive economic growth.

What We Do

Through our three thematic working groups, structured convenings, and peer-informed research publications, the Forum provides an impartial platform where rigorous analysis informs policy and multistakeholder cooperation yields implementable outcomes.

  • Convene — We facilitate structured, high-level dialogue among policymakers, academics, and industry leaders on critical digital economy governance challenges.
  • Research — Our working groups produce evidence-based analysis, policy briefs, and governance frameworks grounded in economic theory and empirical methodology.
  • Advocate — We advance inclusive digital policies through engagement with international institutions and multilateral fora.
  • Connect — We sustain a global network of practitioners and scholars committed to cooperative approaches to digital transformation.

Our Values

GDEF is guided by a commitment to inclusivity, transparency, and evidence-based policymaking. We hold that the digital economy must serve the broad public interest — advancing equitable access, protecting fundamental rights, and promoting sustainable development across all regions and income levels.
